Children and Families Photography

I realise that not everybody enjoys being in a studio environment which is one of the key reasons that the majority of my portrait work is based on location, aiming to capture you and your loved ones at your best.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a favourite location for your photographs – I’ll be happy to reccomend one of the many favourite locations across the Highlands.

While I do a limited amount of posing with subjects, I aim to work with a process that I describe as ‘placing’ – finding the spots that I think will work best for your photographs, and giving you direction from there if you need it. For most people, it’s a case of forgetting the camera is there, and giving you a chance to relax.

When photographing kids, I find it best to take them as they come – you’d be amazed at the number of times I find kids smiling perfectly at the camera, with a row of adults behind all looking at the kids! Give yourself time to relax and enjoy yourselves and the best pictures will come from there.

All sessions include your session time, a post session edit and digital files post edit, perfect for sharing with friends and family – or ideal for gifts. I also include a password protected gallery where images can be viewed and ordered online.

Don’t worry if it’s not something you’ve done before – I’ll be happy to talk you through what might work to give you the best photos.

Family and kids sessions are normally limited to the months of April – October, please get in touch for more information.

Covid Lockdown? Yes – we can still photograph family portrait sessions!

Covid hasn’t made life easy for many reasons, but I’m pleased to say that it’s still possible to photograph family portrait sessions under Covid restrictions.

This year perhaps more than ever, family portrait sessions are a great way to mark out memories of a unique period of life, and make for excellent Christmas presents – especially for relatives at a distance that you may not get to see as often as hoped.

I shoot all of my sessions outdoors, and usually from a distance of at least a few metres – so social distancing isn’t an issue.

If you’d like to enquire about available remaining dates for the year, I’d love to hear from you.

Frequently asked questions about Children and Families Photography

Some information you may like to know – if you have other questions, please get in touch.
Do you photograph in a studio?
I do sometimes photograph in a studio – but not frequently.

I normally photograph my family and childrens portraiture work on location, and usually outdoors.

This normally means people (especially kids) are a lot more relaxed, and should lead to better and more natural photographs.

Do you only photograph in the Highlands?
No, I travel a lot.

Most of my family and kids portraiture work is now in the Highlands as that is where I am based.

I’m happy to shoot sessions elsewhere when logistically possible and often undertake sessions in the central belt of Scotland, or London.

What happens in Lockdown?

Most family sessions can still take place during lockdown with social distancing a natural enough part of a family session.

If your original session isn’t able to be offered due to lockdown rules, an available alternative date will be offered at no additional cost.

What's included in your packages?
Depending on the package that you book, you would normally have a USB of images from your session, in addition to a password protected gallery of your images for viewing online and ordering additional copies if you wish.
I hate having my photo taken - what should I do?
That’s ok, it’s normal – so do I!

Most of the best photographs are taken when people aren’t necessarily looking at the camera or thinking about it – it’s part of my job to make the experience as great as the end results.
