Inverness Editorial Photography
From my base in Inverness in the Scottish Highlands I am well placed to photograph stories throughout the Highlands and Islands for a variety of national and international press clients.
Before moving to the Highlands I trained in Glasgow, working alongside a vartiety of Broadsheet press clients in Edinburgh, Glasgow and London including the Sunday Herald. It was during my time in Glasgow that I was shortlisted for the Scottish Press Photography Awards ‘Young Photographer of the Year’ for 3 consecutive years.
Recent commissions include travel pieces for Edelweiss Air and Westjet Airlines, in addition to a documentary feature for Red Bull TV an editorial assignment for Country Life Magazine and a couple of jobs for The New York Times.
From the heart of the Highlands I am also frequently involved in telling the stories of Scotland’s favourite export – Whisky.
If you are looking to tell a story please get in touch, I’d be happy to help.

Brechin City vs Rangers
Photographed for 11 Freunde
Having been relegated from the Premier League to the Third Division in 2012, Rangers began their journey back up through the leagues with a Ramsdens Cup clash against Brechin City. I was commissioned by 11 Freunde magazine from Germany to capture the story of the match and the surrounding environment as Rangers fans adjusted to their new surroundings.
Invercharron Highland Games
Photographed for Red Bull TV
The Invercharron Highland Games were first recorded to have taken place in 1888. Held in Bonar Bridge, the games feature a range of activities throughout the day, including a range of traditional Caber and weight throwing.
I was invited along to capture some editorial coverage of the games for Red Bull TV.
Guishachan Gathering
Shot for The New York Times
This is another of those jobs that almost never was, but it has gone on to become the most ‘visible’ of any story I’ve captured so far – having gone viral online.
The Guishachan Gathering takes place every few years in the Highlands of Scotland by the remains of Guisachan House, the ancestral home of the Golden Retriever.
Over 400 dogs gathered for the event, (with their owners) coming from all over the world to celebrate this remarkable breed. Despite being in the height of summer, the weather was variable all day – but the dogs didn’t seem to mind – and when the dogs are happy, so are the humans.
I was asked to shoot the event for The New York Times, presuming it might make a small appearance in the travel section. I underestimated the love that people have for their pets (and other peoples) and the images appeared in multiple editions of the NYT including the international homescreen, was shared with multiple outlets including CNN, and went viral on social media with millions of people interacting with the post in various channels.
We accidentally bought the wrong house
Shot for The New York Times
When Cal went to an auction he intended to purchase a flat in Glasgow. Instead, he accidentally bid on the wrong property and ended up owning a dilapidated apartment which was one of multiple apartments that made up Jameswood Villa in Dunoon.
What started out as a mistake soon became a labour of love as Cal and his partner Clare were joined by friends and family to help bring not just their apartment but the whole of Jameswood Villa back into life as a beautiful home.
