Aviemore and the surrounding areas are a great place to capture images, with the surrounding beauty of the Cairngorms National Park offering a large variety of different backdrops to work with.
My photographic work in Aviemore is focused mainly on small and elopement weddings, and family portrait sessions with families coming to Aviemore to make the most of their holiday time.
From Loch Morlich, Loch an Eilean or Loch Garten, there are lots of great spots to capture images in the area, with sheltered spots also available to help when the Scottish weather decides to make an appearance in the most Scottish of ways!

Family photo sessions in the Cairngorms
I’m pleased to offer family portrait sessions for families enjoying a holiday in and around Aviemore, with all of my sessions taking place outdoors.
Some of my favourite spots to photograph include in the Rothiemurchus Forest and by the surrounding Loch an Eilean, a great spot for kids to explore and to enable them to be photographed at their most relaxed.
I’ll also be happy to recommend some of my favourite spots to eat in and around Aviemore, when a well deserved treat is needed as a way to keep kids (and adults!) bribed through their family photo session.
Sessions are normally restricted to the months of April – October where the weather is more favourable – please get in touch for more information.

Elope in the Cairngorms
The Cairngorm national park is full of beautiful landscapes for eloping couples looking to get away and find a little bit of peace and quiet to get married in the Cairngorms.
The seasons offer a wide variety of landscapes in which to capture images, from beautiful purples in the heather to the reds, oranges and yellows of Autumn – for the ultimate adventurer, the winter seasons also have plenty to offer!
There’s a wide variety of businesses that can help to make your elopement experience perfect too, with a range of great hotels, restaurants and other professionals on hand to make sure that you can celebrate your elopement wedding just as you would like.
As a local photographer, I’m also able to advise on many of the locations that I photograph in most frequently, helping to find a spot that works for just the two of you!

Frequently asked questions
Do you offer photography sessions in a studio?
I don’t currently offer photography in a studio, preferring to work outdoors where people tend to be a bit more relaxed. Because of the nature of the Scottish weather, I typically only offer sessions between the months of April to October.
What do we do if the weather isn’t great?
I’d usually recommend having a little flexibility with your plans where you can, so as to make the most of the weather. XCWeather.co.uk is the forecast that I use most often, and it tends to be most reliable approx 48hrs beforehand.
I’d usually suggest shooting a family portrait session in the morning, which then allows a session to be pushed to the afternoon if the weather is looking better at that stage of the day.
What should we wear for our family photo session?
Normally I recommend wearing what you are most comfortable in. Big patterns can date a little more quickly, and may clash a little more when photographing in the Scottish landscape, but being comfortable is always recommended!
How long do we need for our photography session?
Family portrait sessions are usually between 60-120mins, depending on the number of people that are due to be in your family group.
Coverage for Elopements begins from 4hrs worth of coverage.
We have used Roddy twice now for family photographs with big groups. He took the time to understand the make-up of the family before the shoot each time, and his friendly, relaxed approach put everyone at ease straight away (even young kids and dogs!). We’re delighted with the end results and hope to see him again when we’re next in the area.
