Elope to Glencoe

Home to some of Scotland’s most spectacular scenery

Elope in Glencoe

Eloping in Glencoe is one of the most romantic and unforgettable experiences you can have in Scotland.

With its sweeping glens, rugged mountains, and moody skies, Glencoe feels wild and cinematic – the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve stepped straight into a movie. Harry Potter and James Bond have both filmed scenes here.

As a photographer based in the Highlands, I often have the privilege of working with couples and families who choose Glencoe as a backdrop for their celebrations in Scotland.

Whether you’re planning an intimate ceremony among the glens or a quiet moment by a loch, I’ll be happy to help you picture what it’s really like to elope in Glencoe, and how to make the most of your travels to this beautiful part of Scotland.

Peruse the frequently asked questions below to help learn more about eloping in Glencoe, what’s involved, where to stay – what to do, and the best ways to capture all the memories on camera!

I’m Roddy Mackay – a freelance photographer based in Inverness in the beautiful Highlands of Scotland.

Elopement weddings are a large part of my photography workload in the UK, and I also enjoy spending a couple of weeks each year overseas.

Frequently asked Questions

I’ve compiled a list of some of the questions I am asked most frequently, and the answers to those questions. Have another that’s not answered here? Get in touch, I’d be happy to help.

Where should we stay in Glencoe?

There’s a range of accommodation in and around Glencoe, from cosy Airbnbs and glamping pods to boutique hotels like Glencoe House, Kingshouse Hotel, and Ballachulish Hotel. For those who want a real Highland hideaway, there are also a range of cabins and lodges tucked into the glens that surround the area.

For access to more amenities, and those travelling a longer distance, the towns of Oban and Fort William are also in close proximity.

Why choose Glencoe for your photos?

Glencoe has a range of beautiful landscapes to work with, with each season offering something different from the last.

There are wide open landscapes, mountains, hills, forests, rivers and lochside destinations around Glencoe, and the surrounding area.

When is the best time to visit Glencoe?

Each season offers something a little different, but my personal favourite has to be the autumnal months of September into early November.

The summer months can be busier, although there are lots of areas to explore, when you know where.

Weather, and what to wear for a Glencoe trip.

Depending on which time of year you plan to visit, a light shawl may be useful to have for photos – but generally I’d reccomend wearing what you are most comfortable with.

A pair of comfy shoes is also reccommended for those who would like to do a little light walking to explore the most of the landscape.

How do we get to Glencoe?

Although Glencoe can be reached by public transport to benefit the most from the range of landscapes that are available, it’s always reccommended having access to a car.

The A82 road travels straight through Glencoe, reaching Glasgow in the south, or heading north to Skye or Inverness, via Fort William.

Where can you go?

Glencoe has a range of beautiful landscapes to choose from, both in the glen itself, and the local area that surrounds Glencoe.

Each season brings a variety of different views, with changing light and colours bringing a different perspective across the open landcapes.

I’d usually offer a roadtrip of sorts to couples, with options to explore different spots, such as the open glens, riversides, woodland and lochside shots.

Some of my favourite locations in and around Glencoe include:
